CVS Update

It seems like the Extra Care Buck deal for Gillette ProFusion Razor is a MONTHLY deal. This means, that even though it will be listed in this week's ad, if you took advantage of this deal in a previous week in June you will have already reached your limit. I'm pretty sure that this means that you will not have an additional Extra Care Buck print out.

Keep in mind that I am not 100% sure of this, so if you'd like to do this deal again at CVS ask the cashier about it...I don't want you to be disappointed if an ECB doesn't print out for you.

Good news is that if you have already done the deal at CVS, Walgreens also has a Register Reward deal this week on Gillette ProFusion Razors.

There's a coupon available for $1.00 off Windex. Go to coupons.com to print this coupon. I was just telling my husband that I needed to find a good deal on Windex.

Windex is priced at around $1.97 at Target and Wal-Mart, so around $1.00 at those stores.

CVS will be having a special Extra Care Buck deal on cleaning supplies starting the week of June 27. If you buy $10.00 worth of select cleaning supplies, you'll receive a $5.00 Extra Care Buck.
Windex will be priced at $2.50. If you buy 4 and use 4 $1.00 coupons. You'll spend $6.00 and receive a $5.00 Extra Care Buck. You should be able to print two coupons from coupons.com, and there were also coupons for $1.00 off Windex in the 5/9 SmartSource insert.
Remember if you already have Extra Care Bucks you can lower your cost even further, but even without Extra Care Bucks to start with, you'll pay $6.00 and earn $5.00 in ECBs. If you factor in the ECBs that you earn, it will be like paying $0.25 per bottle of Windex!!

I was just telling my husband last night that we only had one bottle of jelly left in our pantry. I haven't found any good coupons for jelly in a LONG time...it seems like I always use register rewards to buy my jelly because I can't find a good deal on it. I just went to check my Facebook page and found an update from Welch's that there is a coupon available for $0.75 off Welch's Reduced Sugar Jelly. Contacting Companies

I just realized that I have not posted about contacting companies in several weeks. With everything that was going on at our house last week (VBS, septic issues, parents visiting) it seems like it has been taking me a while to get caught back up on things. I posted about contacting companies here. The products I had listed before were Drano, Aleve, Kellogg's, and Digiorno. Did any of you contact them? Did you get coupons from any of them? I contacted all of them. I received two coupons from Kellogg's for $1.00 off any box of cereal. I also received a coupon book filled with $15.00 off coupons from Aleve...nothing from Drano or Digiorno for me (yet). :)

Stockpiling

If you have been reading my blog for any amount of time, you've probably noticed that my weekly grocery shopping trips might seem a little different than what you would normally buy on any given week. 20 boxes of cereal one week, 10 bags of rice another week, 15 bottles of shampoo, etc.

Before I started getting serious about couponing I shopped in a completely different way. I'd sit down and make out a meal plan for the week, then I'd go through my recipes and make my shopping list based on what meals I would make and what I would need for that week. I'd then go through my coupons to see if I had any coupons that would work with the shopping list that I'd already made. I'd buy just enough to get my family through the week, and then the next week I'd go through the exact same process. Of course while I would be at the grocery store I'd buy more items than were on my list...gotta love those impulse buys. My boys already eat like grown men, and our grocery bill was going through the roof.

When I decided to get serious about coupon shopping and really trying to make coupons work FOR me, I realized that I had been going about my shopping trips COMPLETELY backwards. Now I go through the weekly ads, find the deals that are on sale AND that match up with my coupons, and make my grocery list from that. Instead of only buying one or two items, I will buy as many items as I have coupons for. (Note, as a coupon shopper I NEVER want to clear the shelves so other people can't get in on the deals as well, so sometimes I'll cut back what I was originally intending to buy if the store doesn't have a lot of the product in stock...this usually isn't a problem at grocery stores, but you will run into this at Walgreens and CVS sometimes.) If rice is on sale and I have a good coupon for it, I will buy 5 to 10 bags. No we won't use that much rice in a one to two week period, but my goal is to buy enough so that I won't have to buy it again at full price. I want to have enough in my pantry to last until the next sale comes along. If I can buy a bag of rice that is normally priced at $1.50 and get it for $0.30, I want to snag as many as I can! I've noticed that most stores run similar sale cycles every 6 to 12 weeks, so my goal is to try to have at least a 6 week stockpile of pantry staples so I'll have enough to last my family until the next sale comes along.

Okay, this sounds good right...buy things at rock bottom prices so you don't have to pay full price for anything. When I first started out I thought, "Yeah that sounds great, but we are barely able to buy what our family absolutely NEEDS each week. Where am I going to get extra money to start stockpiling?" Some of you might not be at that place, but I am being honest...at the end of the month we were STRUGGLING trying to stretch our food. I thought there was NO WAY that I could even start stockpiling groceries. I decided to pull out $10.00 of our grocery budget every week to put towards stockpiling foods. I would scrimp on our normal grocery purchases, and then I'd take the $10 that was left and ONLY use it to buy items that were WAY on sale and that I had coupons for. One week I used it to buy only cereal, the next week only deodorant, etc. I will say that it was slow going for me...I was trying to figure out couponing and matching sales with coupons all on my own. At first I couldn't see it making a HUGE difference, but I decided to give myself 8 weeks to see if it would really make a difference. As the weeks went on I noticed that my grocery list of NEEDS was actually getting smaller. I was started to accumulate a stockpile of grocery staples, so I could "shop" from my pantry before I made my grocery list for the week. After about 8 weeks my husband and I sat down to reevaluate our grocery budget. We had so much extra food bought up that we really only NEEDED to buy produce, dairy, breads, etc. every week. We decided to try cutting our grocery budget significantly. Now I only (okay, I say only but of course there are a few exceptions) buy pantry items when they are at rock bottom prices, and the majority of our grocery budget now goes to perishable food items.

I have heard from several people that say no matter how many coupons they use they can't seem to get their grocery budget down...they are buying MORE with coupons, but are still having to spend the same amount. Just wanted to give you a personal story of how I was able to reduce our grocery budget. I will be honest, if you are on a strict budget, you won't be able to cut your grocery budget all at once. Give it a couple of months...take out a few dollars every week to put towards stockpiling items. Over the course of several weeks you should notice that your pantry stockpile is growing and your grocery list of NEEDS is getting shorter. Soon you should be at a point where you are only buying items at rock bottom prices, with the exclusion of perishable food items.

I checked the expiration dates on these products and they don't expire until 6/30/2010. To make this deal even sweeter there are coupons to go along with this deal!!

I also ran to HEB today. Again, I didn't see a lot of GREAT deals that I wanted to take advantage of, but I had a coupon for Oscar Mayer Lunchmeat that was expiring in the next couple of days and I wanted to use it. I bought everything pictured below, and spent...

Albertsons Shopping Trip (June 16)

I mentioned in my Albertsons Ad Match Up that I didn't see a lot of good deals advertised in this week's ad. I wanted to see if I could find any deals that weren't advertised. I bought everything pictured below and spent...



$4.05. I broke my trip up into three different transactions so I would be able to use three different Register Rewards that I had. An important thing to note...not all Albertsons will accept Register Rewards. I talked to the front end manager at the Albertsons on College Hills and she said that they may not be allowed to accept them any more. She said that some people who are higher up in the Albertsons chain are questioning them. She copied the Albertsons coupon policy that was emailed to me, and said that she will email it to her bosses. She said that in the next week she should have more answers for us. In the meantime, she allowed me to use all of my Register Rewards today. I just want you to be prepared in case your Register Rewards are questioned. I'll keep you updated as I learn more about this.

Side note...I did this trip with three boys (one who missed his nap today :) I made sure to take snacks and had to take a few quick trips to the water fountain and toy aisle, but if you are able to leave your kids at home you might find some even better deals!! :)

Lowe's Ad

I want to start out by saying that I have never shopped at Lowe's grocery store before, but I have taken their ad into Wal-Mart to price match. I wanted to point out a couple of good deals that Lowe's is running this week (through Tuesday the 22nd). If you think these seem like good deals you could either run to Lowe's or take your ad into Wal-Mart to price match.

Albertsons Ad/Coupon Match Up (June 16 - 22)

I have to be honest it looks like a VERY slow week at Albertsons. I'm kind of struggling to write the match ups because it seems like even with coupons that there aren't a lot of GREAT deals that I can see in the ad. I'll probably head over to Albertsons to see if I can find any unadvertised deals, but it seriously looks like it might be a week where I only buy milk, bread, and produce and use up other food from our stockpile. That's the great thing about stocking up when items are on sale, you can choose when to buy more food and what price you are willing to pay for food!!

I am going to match up some of the advertised deals, but I have to admit that these prices are really not great prices. I did a mock shopping trip for CVS and Walgreens several weeks ago, and I decided that I would do another one this week because I have had several people email me about questions they have about Walgreens. Walgreens and CVS can seem confusing when you first start shopping there, but once you get the hang of them you will be able to buy SO many toiletries for pennies!! I will try to sit down a little later in the week and do a more detailed post about how Walgreens and CVS actually work, but for now I'll do a mock shopping trip for you. I took my boys up to the movie theater this morning so we could watch the dollar movie. We got there right at 9:30...the movie was supposed to start at 10:00. It was already sold out!! My mother-in-law met us there to watch the movie with us, and when we found out the movie was sold out she said that we could go watch a movie at her house. We ran by Hastings and rented Alice in Wonderland...I have to say it was a LOT better than the movie that was showing at the theater (at least in my opinion). :) I'm going to get my youngest son down for a nap, and I'll try to start posting some new deals/coupons that have come up since yesterday!!

Even if you don't have kids, or your kids are out of diapers, I would definitely go ahead and do this deal. Tinseltown $1.00 Movie (June 15)

Wanted to remind you about the $1.00 movie tomorrow at Tinseltown!! Remember every Tuesday this summer they will be showing older movies for only $1.00. All movies are rated G or PG.

For those of you in San Angelo tomorrow's movie is supposed to be Alvin and the Chipmunks 2. Going to the movies is a very RARE treat for our kids. (It is so expensive to take a family of five to the movies now, and someone always seems to have to go to the bathroom at the worst time in the movie :) I think that we'll probably be going to a few of these dollar movies throughout the summer.

The movie starts at 10:00. If you are interested in going, I'd get there no later than 9:30 because the theaters usually fill up pretty fast!! If you are able to skip the concession stand you should be able to have a fun inexpensive morning with the kids!!

Walgreens Trip (June 14)

I made a quick trip to Walgreens tonight. I started out with no register rewards...most of the time I take the register rewards that I earn and use them at Albertsons to help lower my grocery bill, so I usually start out with zero register rewards. I bought everything pictured below and spent:



$1.89!! I also bought 5 Butterfingers and gave them to the lady behind me in line!! Did you know that when the cashiers at Walgreens try to sell you small items next to the register that they get a tiny commission off of them? Tonight the cashier asked if I'd like to buy Butterfingers...he was so friendly that I decided to give back a little to him by buying some (even though no one in my family eats them). Gave a little to him and to the lady behind me in line...spread the love :)

I had to do two different transactions at Walgreens tonight.

Transaction #1:

I just got back from a quick trip to Walgreens, and wanted to let you know about an AMAZING deal that I found. This deal will only work if you have the coupons that I mention AND you have a coupon friendly cashier!!

Reach Total Care Multi-Action or Massage Toothbrushes are priced at $4.49 right now...almost $5.00 for a toothbrush, isn't that ridiculous???

There is an in ad coupon for $3.00 off Select Dental Care products in this week's ad (Select Reach Toothbrushes, Floss, Listerine)

In order to do this deal you need to make sure that you buy the select Reach toothbrushes that are listed on the $3.00 in ad coupon.

You must have other items in your transaction that total more than $5.02 or this will not ring up. When I did this deal I also bought some Nivea Body Wash (received a $6.00 Register Reward) and some peanut butter because we were completely out.

This is a GREAT time to stock up on toothbrushes and be able to lower the cost of other items. You could buy a couple gallons of milk and use the extra $5.02 to lower the cost of that...we hardly ever find coupons for milk!!

Remember in order to get this deal to work you need to make sure that the cashier scans the manufacturer's coupons FIRST, the Walgreens in ad coupon LAST, and you will need at least $5.02 of other merchandise to cover the overage that the Reach toothbrush deal will create.
