Getting Started at CVS

If you are just beginning to shop at CVS or Walgreens, then I encourage you to start small. On your first trip to the drugstores, plan on going in and doing just one transaction to get your feet wet.

Tomorrow is the perfect time to make your first trip to CVS. Here's a game plan that you might want to consider:

First, if you don't already have an Extra Care Card with CVS, then go ahead and sign up for one. It will only take you a few minutes, and you'll be able to start saving right away.

Second, find the price scan machine and scan your Extra Care Card. If you can't locate it, then ask the cashier to point you in the right direction. You might not get any coupons on your first scan, but it's a good idea to get in the habit of scanning your card every time you shop at CVS.

Now it's time to start shopping. CVS has an Extra Bucks deal this week where if you buy select Gold Emblem Candy (Gold Emblem is CVS' store brand) (candy corn, autumn mix, or pumpkins) for $0.99, you'll receive a $0.99 Extra Care Buck at check out. Note, this sale is only good Sunday to Tuesday, and there is a limit of one of these deals per card.

Buy the candy, and you'll be on your way to shopping at CVS and rolling your Extra Care Bucks.

Remember, start small so you won't get overwhelmed.

Oh, you might also want to pick up a Green Bag Tag while you are there. This is a small tag that is shaped like a leaf. Every time you shop at CVS and bring in a reusable bag, the cashier will scan this tag. Every 4th time the tag is scanned, you'll earn an additional $1.00 Extra Care Buck.

CVS Coupon Policy

CVS has FINALLY released their coupon policy! I really encourage you to go here and print a copy of this policy.

A few highlights from the policy:

-CVS won't accept expired coupons
-CVS will not give overage for your coupons, but they will adjust the coupon down to the price of the item you are purchasing.
-CVS will combine a man. coupon and CVS coupon for the purchase of a single item.
-CVS will accept valid internet coupons.

The coupon policy does not address Buy one Get one FREE sales. It seems like this will be left up to individual stores (or even cashiers) as to how they will handle those. Some CVS stores will allow you to use a BOGO coupon on a BOGO sale allowing you to get 2 items completely free. Some CVS stores will allow you to use 2 money off coupons during a BOGO sale.

For those of you in San Angelo, I found these at the CVS on College Hills. They were on an end cap towards the back of the store. I picked up 3 bottles, and there was still a pretty good amount of them left. Please keep in mind that the coupon limits you to 4 like coupons per transaction.

CVS--$0.99 Pepsi 12 packs and FREE Gillette Fusion ProSeries??

There have been reports on various blogs that you can get Pepsi 12 packs for $0.99 at CVS TODAY ONLY. From what I have read, when you scan your Extra Care Card under the price scan machine, a coupon for a $0.99 Pepsi 12 pack is supposed to print. I decided to go and try this deal out for myself before posting about it.

I scanned my card, and no $0.99 Pepsi coupon printed for me. The lady in line behind me got one though. I'm not sure if it is triggered to certain cards or not, but if you happen to be going in to CVS today then be sure to scan your card...you might be one of the lucky ones!

Of course while I was at CVS I couldn't leave without trying to spot some deals, and I found a good one.

Select Gillette Fusion ProSeries products (Intense Cooling Lotion and Cleanser) were on clearance. These products are normally priced over $7.00 and they were marked 75% off...$1.94 and $2.19.

If you use the coupon for $2.00 off Gillette Fusion ProSeries coupon found in the 6/5 Proctor and Gamble insert you'll be able to pick them up for FREE to $0.19. A GREAT deal!!

Of course clearance varies from store to store, but it wouldn't hurt to check your CVS to see if you find the same prices. For those of you in San Angelo, I found these at the CVS on College Hills.

Top Deals at CVS this Week

I know that a lot of you are new to couponing and may be a bit overwhelmed by the drugstores. I thought I'd give you the top deals at the drugstores this week and walk you through how to get the most bang for your buck.

I will only be focusing on the deals that I think are the BEST.

It's a pretty slow week at CVS this week, so this will be a good time to get your feet wet there. Remember, in order to get any of these deals you MUST HAVE an Extra Care Card. If you don't have one, just sign up for one at the cash register.

(Just a side note, when I did this deal I bought Lady Speed Stick. I've found that there seem to be more deals on men's deodorant and body wash than women's, so when I am given the option I try to buy women's.)

After both transactions you will have spent $3.49 on 3 sticks of deodorant and still have $2.00 left for your next trip to CVS. Remember these Extra Care Bucks expire about a month after they print, so hang onto them. I suggest using them next week to lower your out of pocket expenses.

Duncan Hines Brownies--$0.33

CVS has the Duncan Hines Brownies priced at 12 for $10.00 this week...that breaks down to just $0.83 a box. If you use the coupon for $0.50 off Duncan Hines Brownies that I just posted about, you'll be able to get a box for just $0.33!!

This sale is featured on the last page of their ad.

The CVS I shop at does not have a large stock of food items, so I will probably take the ad into Wal-Mart and price match there.

CVS--FREE Deodorant

Starting on Sunday, April 24th, CVS is supposed to have Dove Men+Care Deodorant on sale for $0.99 (limit 5). This is a great price by itself, but of course coupons always make the deal better!!

Stove Top Stuffing $0.38

There is a coupon for $0.50 off Stove Top Stuffing available if you Like Stove Top Stuffing on Facebook.


Stove Top Stuffing is priced at $0.88 at CVS this week, so when you use the coupon you'll pay only $0.38 a box. This is a GREAT deal! The last time I priced these at Wal-Mart, they were over $1.50 for one box. Our local CVS doesn't carry a huge stock of food items, so your best bet would probably be to take the CVS ad to Wal-Mart and price match there.

Remember that you should be able to print TWO coupons per computer.

Stretching a Dollar at the Drug Stores

I wasn't planning on doing any deals at CVS or Walgreens this week, but when I was out running errands I noticed that I had Extra Care Bucks and Register Rewards that were expiring today. Instead of letting them go to waste, I decided to make a quick trip to both stores and see what I could pick up. I hadn't had a chance to look through any of the ads and I didn't have very many coupons with me. I think I still did a pretty good job rolling my rewards.

-I used a coupon for $5.00 off Gillette Fusion that I had from a Proctor and Gamble coupon booklet that was mailed to me.

I also purchased 3 bags of M&Ms for $0.33 each that I used as filler items.

I paid with $14.00 in Register Rewards and received $9.00 in Register Rewards.

There are a lot of other GREAT deals at CVS this week, but I was happy with the deals I did. I was shopping with a tired 4 year old and with a limited supply of coupons. My main goal was to pick up items that we use in our family and to roll my rewards.

Whoever says a dollar can't buy you anything any more clearly does not use coupons and does not shop at drug stores. :)

Just wanted to mention that there were a couple of really great CVS coupons that printed for me from the price scan machine today. I'm not sure if everyone receives the same coupons, but wanted to point them out so you can look out for them.

-Excedrin 24 ct. are on sale for $1.99 this week, so completely FREE after coupon.
I picked up Excedrin Migraine that had a FREE package of Excedrin PM (8 ct.) attached to them.

CVS--Inexpensive Almay Makeup

For the past several weeks, CVS has had a lot of their makeup on clearance...some as much as 75% off.

I ran by there today, and found quite a bit of their Almay makeup that was clearance priced.

There was a coupon for $2.00 off any Almay makeup in the 1/23 SmartSource insert. Using this coupon you should be able to get some very inexpensive makeup.

I noticed foundation, concealer, eye shadow, and powder that was marked down. Eye shadow was marked down to $2.07...so only $0.07 after coupon.

If you are in need of some makeup, it might be worth it for you to make a trip to CVS (with coupons in hand) to try to score some inexpensive makeup!

I have gone into CVS over the past couple of weeks trying to get my hands on some Wisk Detergent. I have a raincheck from when they were on sale several weeks ago. CVS Coupons

I ran to CVS today and was very happy with the CVS coupons that printed off for me when I scanned my card. I know that not everyone gets the same coupons, but I wanted to point out a couple of the GREAT ones that I got so you guys can be on the look out for the same thing.

CVS coupon for $1.00 off any CVS brand diaper wipe
-There are travel size CVS diaper wipes priced at $0.99, so FREE after coupon!!

Luckily I no longer have kids in diapers, but I don't think I'll ever stop buying diaper wipes to keep in my purse/car. I don't care how old your kids get, they still get grubby sticky hands/faces and diaper wipes are perfect for quick clean ups.

CVS coupon for $5.00 off any 2 Revlon Cosmetics
-There were a lot of Revlon cosmetics on sale for 75% off...just need to keep your eyes peeled for the 75% off stickers. There were many items that you could get for FREE, or close to it.
I bought two Revlon Cream to Powder Eye Shadow...regularly priced over $8.00 each, marked down to $2.07.
With coupon they were FREE, plus the coupon took off the whole $5.00, so I was able to get a little bit of overage as well! :)

CVS Trip (January 4, 2011)

I went into CVS to try to take advantage of the Wisk Detergent deal, but they were completely out. (Side note...I had so much laundry detergent stocked up that I wasn't planning on needing to buy any more for months and months. Our washing machine died in November, and we had to purchase a new one. The one we bought needs HE detergent, so I am having to restock detergent. Right now I'm down to only one bottle. I will definitely be searching for deals on it over the next few weeks!) I made sure to get a raincheck on the Wisk detergent, and plan on using it when they restock the shelves.

I came up with another deal that I wasn't planning on doing, but that ended up working out wonderfully!

CVS and Walgreens Trips (November 26)

I think I might be one of the only avid coupon shoppers that did not wake up in the wee hours of the morning to hit the Black Friday Sales. I know of several people who didn't even make it to bed last night; they were at the stores last night and continued shopping until late morning/early afternoon. I looked through the ads, but I really didn't see anything that was worth traipsing around town in the middle of the night for...not to mention the freezing temperatures. I did manage to make a run to CVS and Walgreens this afternoon, and I got some AMAZING deals, and to make it even better...the stores were almost empty. I don't know if people stopped there earlier in the day, or if they didn't think that CVS and Walgreens would have anything worth buying. This is a GREAT time of year to stock up on toiletries at little to no cost to you!! If you are new to couponing, this is the time to start your stockpile!!

After my trip today, I left CVS with $3.18 in Extra Care Bucks and Walgreens with $23.96 in Register Rewards. I'd say it definitely was a successful shopping day!!

The Walgreens and CVS Black Friday sales are good through tomorrow (Saturday) so if you haven't taken advantage of them I'd really encourage you to get out there and save some BIG money on your toiletry items. Remember to save the most money you need to do multiple transactions and use the Register Rewards and Extra Care Bucks that you earn to pay for your next transaction!
