Wal-Mart Clearance

Jaime emailed to let me know that she found several racks of summer clothes marked way down at Wal-Mart. Kids' shirts and shorts marked as low as $1.00!! It sounds like now would be a GREAT time to stock up on some summer staples!

Sunday Coupon Preview

There are not supposed to be any coupon inserts in this Sunday's newspaper. It seems like if a holiday falls on a Monday, that the newspaper on the Sunday before usually doesn't have any inserts. Not sure why this is, but it seems like that is always the case. If you only pick the Sunday newspaper up for the coupons, you might want to skip this week...or at least flip through the newspaper before buying it to see if there might be an unexpected insert.

HEB Coupon Update

So it sounds like some of you might have had problems using the $5.00 off 5 Kraft cheese coupon at HEB. It doesn't scan properly, so cashiers are saying you can't use it. I had a meeting with Lynn Shipley (the supervisor at the San Angelo HEB) several months ago, and he gave me a copy of an email that he had just recently received concerning Internet coupons. The following is a copy of the email that he printed off for me. I have highlighted the section about Internet coupons.

New Coupon Policy Rolls Out To Stores

At H-E-B, we know it is important for our Customers to stretch every dollar they spend. With that in mind, H-E-B has launched a new coupon policy. The new coupon policy outlines the types of coupons we accept and our coupon guidelines.

A key policy change pertains to internet coupons. Printable internet coupons are extremely popular because they are widely available through a variety of coupon websites and are easily redeemable at applicable locations. In the past, internet coupons were accepted at H-E-B if they scanned correctly at the register. For the convenience of our Customers, the new coupon policy states that H-E-B now accepts all internet coupons even if they do not scan, provided the Customer has met the purchase criteria expressed on the coupon (i.e. the targeted item, brand, and size).

Click here to review the coupon policy and to learn more about our coupon guidelines. The coupon policy can also be found on our heb.com website under Weekly Ads and Coupons. For any questions regarding the new coupon policy, speak to your Central Checkout Operations Manager or your Store Leader.

I keep a copy of this email in my coupon binder and pull it out if I have any troubles while I am checking out at HEB. You might want to print a copy of it as well. It seems like HEB has a problem with their employees not being aware of their coupon policy. As a coupon shopper, I know that it can be frustrating at times...but stick with it...the savings are well worth any frustrations!!

HEB Update

A little earlier today I printed off the GREAT $5.00 off 5 Kraft Cheese coupon that I just posted about. I wanted to take it up to HEB to see if it would work with one of their Combo Locos this week.

BUY:
Kraft Natural Shredded Cheese
GET FREE:
HEB Corn Chips
Wolf Brand No Bean Chili

I got to HEB and was surprised to find that the cheese was price cut to $2.00. I picked up 5 packages of cheese, corn chips, and chili and went to check out.

I handed the cashier all of the yellow store coupons first, and then the $5.00 off of 5 Kraft Cheese coupon. Wouldn't you know that the coupon would not scan. The cashier tried to tell me that they no longer accepted internet coupons. I smiled and said that they did. He then told me that they couldn't accept internet coupons if they did not scan. I smiled again and said that they did...as long as it is a valid coupon with a barcode, expiration date, and mail/in information he should be able to manually enter in the amount. I pulled out an email that I received from the supervisor of our local HEB that said just that. He still did not want to accept the coupon. I pulled out one of the bags of cheese that had a peelie on the front that said save $5.00 off of 5 Kraft Cheese products (on the inside it had the website where you could go to print off the coupon). He called someone else over (a manager maybe?), and he finally manually entered it.

I walked out of the store with 5 bags of Kraft Cheese, 5 cans of Chili, and 5 bags of Corn Chips for $5.00 (around $0.33 per item)!! If you try this at HEB you will most likely be told that you cannot use the coupon, but if you remain calm, polite, and hold your ground they should take your coupon off...but it is not for the faint of heart. :)

If you don't want to deal with the hassle over this coupon, you might want to use the coupon for $1.00 off 2 Kraft Cheese found here. (I did not try this coupon to see if it would scan, but it is a coupon from coupons.com and the coupons from there usually scan!) If you bought two of the combo locos, you'd pay $3.00 (around $0.50 per item), still an awesome deal!!

I see frito pie, chili dogs, and chili cheese dip in my future! :)

Walgreens Shocker!

I ran into Walgreens this morning to take advantage of some of the Register Rewards deals for this week. While I was checking out, I started talking to the cashier about couponing. She told me that she had been working at Walgreens for several years and still couldn't figure out how to use Register Rewards, so she just THROWS THEM AWAY!! Can you believe it? My jaw just about hit the floor when she told me that! It's like she's been throwing money away. I told her that they can be confusing to figure out at first, but that they can really save you money. I told her at the very least, she could take the Register Rewards that she's earned and use them on grocery items. She just shook her head and said she'd probably keep throwing them out. What?!?

New to Walgreens?

If you are new to Walgreens, this week might be the perfect time for you to get your feet wet and start learning how to use your Register Rewards. There are a couple of Register Rewards Deals that require absolutely NO coupons, so everyone (even new couponers) will be able to take advantage of these deals! To get started simply follow the exact steps below!

Transaction #1:

Walgreens Perfection Tampons (8 ct.) $1.99
-Pay $1.99 (plus tax) and receive a $2.00 Register Reward

Transaction #2:

Carmex Moisture Plus Lip Balm $2.00
-Pay with the $2.00 Register Reward that you earned from Transactin #1 AND receive another $2.00 Register Reward.

You can stop there if you want...spend around $1.99 (plus tax) on two items and still have a $2.00 Register Reward to use next time you shop at Walgreens, or you can keep rolling your Register Rewards.

(At the Walgreens I went to, these products were on an endcap towards the front of the cosmetics area.)

I know that Walgreens can be a little tricky, but once you learn how to use your Register Rewards to lower your out of pocket expenses you will have a BLAST!

Albertsons--Campbell's Catalina Deal

I was at Albertsons this morning, and I noticed a Catalina deal that they have on select Campbell's Condensed Soups.

Buy 4 select Campbell's Soups and receive a coupon for $1.00 off your next purchase at check out.

The Campbell's Soups that are included in this deal are priced from $1.00 to $1.79.

The best deal that I could come up with is:

Buy 4 Campbell's Cream of Chicken Soup ($1.00 each)
-use 2 coupons for $0.50 off two Campbell's Great For Cooking Soups (found here and also in the Save Big. Dream Big. Coupon Book) (These will both be doubled)
Final Price: Pay $2.00 AND receive a $1.00 Catalina Coupon at check out. (That's $0.50 per can, and you have $1.00 to spend on your next transaction)

You'll need to be careful when doing this deal. Not all Campbell's Soups are included...ONLY the ones that are labeled in the aisles.

I noticed this for the first time today, but I'm not sure how long it has been going on. It might be a new deal, or it might be something that has been going on all of August and will be ending after today. Either way, it is definitely something to look for the next time you are at Albertsons

Coupons Expiring Today

I just wanted to remind you that a LOT of coupons will be expiring today since it is the last day of August. There are a couple of them that I would definitely try to use today if you will be out.

$1.00 off Tide Detergent (found in 8/1 Proctor and Gamble insert)
-I always save these coupons until the end of the month. If there are no good sales on Tide during the month, I use these coupons to buy the travel size Tide packages at Target. These are priced at $0.97 and have enough detergent in them for one load of laundry. I've been doing this for several months, and I now have close to 40 of them. I could have been throwing them out, but now I have the equivilant of one GOOD size bottle of Tide for FREE!

$1.00 off two Charmin Products (found in 8/1 Proctor and Gamble insert)
-HEB has Charmin Basic packages (4 double rolls) on sale for $1.50...with coupon you can get a package for $1.00. I've always had a hard time finding toilet paper at a great stock up price. When I can find a double roll of toilet paper for $0.25 or less I stock up. I'm not sure what these are priced at Wal-Mart, but you should be able to find a comparable price...if not, you can always price match.

Monday, August 30, 2010

Would you believe that I have not clipped coupons in almost a month? I have over 70 different inserts that are just waiting to be clipped. I've been putting it off for the last several weeks, but I think that tonight I need to start tackling the stack of coupons. Hopefully I'll get a few knocked out tonight and will get caught up in the next couple of days.

I've gone through some of the inserts and clipped a few that I knew I'd be using on my shopping trips, but most of them are still waiting for me. Wish me luck! :)

3 lbs. of Coupon Inserts

I know I've posted about paying to have coupon inserts mailed to me every two weeks. I just received a shipment of three pounds of coupon inserts, and wanted to show you just how many inserts come in each package!

This shipment had 43 coupon inserts:

6 7/25 SmartSource Inserts
2 7/25 RedPlum inserts
5 8/1 Proctor and Gamble inserts
6 8/1 SmartSource inserts
3 8/1 RedPlum inserts
5 8/8 RedPlum inserts
2 8/8 General Mills Inserts
6 8/8 SmartSource inserts
3 8/15 RedPlum inserts
5 8/15 SmartSource inserts

I know several of you have mentioned buying newspapers and not receiving all of the inserts that are scheduled to have been in the newspaper (usually the RedPlum inserts). I also know that a lot of you buy the newspapers JUST for the coupons and end up throwing away the rest of the paper.

I started having the 3 pounds of coupon inserts mailed to me for several reasons:

1. In order to REALLY shrink your grocery budget, you need to STOCK UP when items are on sale. To do this effectively, you need to have multiples of the same coupon. More and more often, I'd go to buy newspapers at the store and find that they had already sold out of the papers.

2. Our local newspaper does NOT have the same amount of coupons or the high value coupons as big city newspapers. The coupon inserts that are mailed are from larger cities, so they tend to be higher dollar coupons. (A BIG plus!!)

3. I felt terrible throwing out all the newspapers that were never even read! I had grand plans of recycling them, but our city is not very recycling friendly, so the majority of the time my stack of newspapers would grow until I got so sick of it that I'd just throw them away.

4. I realized that I would be saving money having coupon inserts mailed to me...not just at the grocery store, but actually on the coupons themselves. The newspaper that I used to buy every Sunday cost $3.00 for each one! Having the coupons mailed to me costs $33.00...less than $1.00 an insert! If I only use one $1.00 coupon from each insert, I will have made my money back, but I can assure you that I will use MANY more coupons than just one from each insert!!

Each shipment of coupon inserts is $33.00. That might sound like a lot, but I easily make that up in ONE shopping trip!! I really think that it is a wonderful investment. You might think that you would never use that many coupons...but as you can see there are several of the same inserts, so think about going in with a friend and splitting the inserts. (Most of the time you receive even numbers of the same inserts, so should be very easy to split!)

I receive my inserts from a small company called American Consumer Services. I contacted Mr. Daniels (the owner) and asked him if it would be okay if I wrote a blog about his business...I wanted to make sure that if any of you were interested in receiving shipments that he would have enough coupon inserts in stock to accomodate new orders. He told me that he should have enough. He did say to have new orders mention that they heard about his business on Lucrecia Wingfield's blog. If you do this, he will take $3.00 off your first shipment...so you'll pay only $30.00!

This is a smaller company, and he does not have a website. You can contact him at 1-866-790-5088 or email him at americanconsumer@comcast.net.

Hope some of you take advantage of this offer...make sure to tell him that you heard about this on Lucrecia Wingfield's blog, so you can be sure to get in on his mailing list. Oh, and this is not something you have to sign a contract to join...try it once, and if you aren't satisfied call and cancel. I signed up to have it delivered once a month, and as soon as I received my first shipment I emailed him to ask if I could get it delivered every two weeks!

Shopping Success!!

My friend, Shelli, sent me an email with a picture of her latest CVS and Walgreens shopping trip. Sorry that the picture is so small, for some reason I wasn't able to enlarge it. She purchased:
2 Clorox Disinfecting Wipes
2 Store Brand Sandwich Bags
2 packages of Hershey's Chocolate Bars (each package has 6 candy bars in it!)

She only spent $1.50 on EVERYTHING!! For less than the cost of one item at most grocery stores, she was able to buy all six items!! Way to go Shelli!!

Keep the pictures coming. I love to hear about your shopping trips!!

Wal-Mart - FREE BallPark Franks!

If you still have the awesome coupon for $2.00 off any BallPark product that I posted about here, you will be able to use it to get FREE BallPark Franks at Wal-Mart.

I ran into Wal-Mart this afternoon and noticed that select BallPark Franks were priced at $2.00. Personally, I think it is a better deal at HEB...spend a little more but get 5 extra products. If you don't have an HEB near you, or you just don't shop there then I'd definitely take advantage of FREE hotdogs at
Wal-Mart!
